1) Through our suite of idents, our group intended on promoting the enrichment that takes place every academic year at the college, on the Christ The King YouTube channel, using live action and animation. The enrichment includes activities such as sport, dance, art, etc. We wanted to give our intended target audience a true visual image of what takes place at our college, indicating the fact that our college is a place where we allow every individual to manifest their gifts and talents. Every academic year, a talent show takes place, a fashion show, a collegiate day, which is a day consisting of sport activities, etc. We felt as if doing this would have been more of a success, trying to attract the target audience, instead of just promoting the core subjects, such as Maths, English and Science. Also, we want our intended audience to look at our college as a college that is different from every other college. For example, making the audience that we're targeting know that we're different from North West Kent. For example, North West Kent is more of a secular college, whereas Christ The King is a college that welcomes belief.
Through our suite of idents, apart from attracting the audience, we also intended to nail consistency across all idents. We were intending that the audience will recognise the idents as a suite of idents. In order to accomplish this, we had to make sure that the idents all consisted of the same things, such as colour, animation.
2) Our group set out to successfully achieve various things, such as making sure that our idents were recognisable, also that we successfully did everything we could to make sure that our suite of idents appealed to our target audience, etc. In order to achieve these various things that our group set out to do, in terms of making sure that the ident was recognisable, we went out to find out how it would have been easy for the audience to look at the idents, and instantly recognise that it was Christ The King's channel we were promoting. So we looked at things like colours, which was White and Purple. We found this out as these are the colours used in the logo, they are the colours used on the uniform for the ambassadors, etc. So therefore, we decided to use the same colours in our idents in subtle ways, which was the animation, as you will either see white and purple splashes, lines moving about, and other forms of animation. Also, with regards to making sure that the ident successfully appealed to its target audience, we made sure that the characters used in the idents were around the same age of the people we were targeting. As we were targeting students between the ages of 16-18, we made sure that in all our idents, we used people between these age groups.
3) I was the Director Of Photography for the idents. So my job was to make sure that for the dents, everything was filmed in the way it was supposed to be filmed, draw and demonstrated on the storyboard). Also, due to my ability to use various software for editing, such as Final Cut Pro and Photoshop, my duty was to go hand-in-hand with another member from my group with the editing after the ident was filmed. So after the ident was filmed, I edited the footage on Final Cut Pro. However, this was only done for one ident out of the four in total. However, with the animation, I helped in this area with two of the idents. This was done on Photoshop, as I found it easier than After Effects and Premiere. Another duty that was given to me was to act in some of the idents. I was given the responsibility to act in the basketball ident, simply because it was my idea, and we all agreed that since I knew all the choreography, movement and positioning for the ident, it would make sense if I acted in the ident. I also acted in the studio ident. I played the role of an student using the studio for personal music, making it known that the college provides that sort of opportunity. Another general duty that I carried out was simply just to develop ideas. So, if a member was to come up with an idea, I just had the duty to develop ideas to make the idea more creative.
4) The process of responding to the brief as a group was somewhat successful. There were a few altercations we came across, as the thing that held us back at times was our organisations. Although this wasn't the majority of the time, but our lack of organisation included things like not booking locations as we were supposed to, for example, we were supposed to use the school gym on a day we were supposed to shoot, but we happened to just turn up at the location and expect to shoot straight away, without booking the location in advance, even though it was in our college. As a result, we had to book and wait for a few days before we could then use the location. This resulted in our group having less time to properly shoot the ident, even though we got it in the end, but we were less flexible as we had to race against time, and we also had less time to edit the ident on both Final Cut Pro, and Photoshop. Again, we got there in the end, as a result of racing against time. Another element of organisation that our group slacked in was our attendance. At times, members of the group didn't turn up to carry out their role, whether it was to shoot, to edit, to direct, etc. Although at times, valid excuses were provided, this put a burden on the one or two individuals that were turning up all the time to carry out their role. Consequently, the one or two individuals that turned up had to make sure they carried out their role, whilst having to make sure they substituted the individuals that didn't turn up. The point in which we started to pull our weight, and productively spend our time was towards the deadline, as we were able to get more idents filmed, edited, etc.
Another area we sort of slacked in was our pre production, our planning. This was simply as a result of members of the group not being 100% sure which duty was theirs, so there was a mix up at times. However, once everyone was clear on what they had to do, and became aware of the importance of getting the planning done in time, everyone completed what they had to do in time.
5) We didn't necessarily have to make changes resulting from ethical constraints. We just promoted the college as it is ( with subtlety), which is a Christian/Catholic college. We just had to make sure that we didn't make the college look as if they discriminated other races, such as the Muslim race. To avoid this, we made sure that we didn't show too much of the sign of the cross, as it may look to the audience as if we're a ChristianCatholic college, without acknowledging the fact that there may be people from other races that attend the college. With regards to the unforeseen challenges, one of the members from our group came up with an idea for one of the idents for the entire suite. The ident was filmed and edited on Final Cut Pro. So therefore, the ident was ready to be animated. However, towards the deadline for the suite of dents, one of the members from our group noticed a problem and shared it with the rest of the group, and the problem was that, out of all the idents, the newspaper ident wouldn't have made sense being part of the suite of idents, as there was no correlation in comparison to the other idents. As a result, we decided just in time to come up with another idea for the ident, so that there could be more of a correlation with the other idents. We managed to sort the situation out in time.
